Emergency
Preparation
Categories
Listed below are the many different categories of back-up supplies we assist our customers with choosing.

ABOVE ALL ELSE: WATER
Water is the most important item to store but takes up a good bit of space. A family of four needs at least 120 gallons of drinking water for a 30-day supply—140 gallons with just one average sized pet. Our space-flexible water solutions include the following:
Water Storage Containers
- Varying sizes, shapes and compositions including hard, soft, stackable, non-stackable, BPA-free plastic, metal and more.
Water Storage Container Accessories
- Spouts, specialized wrenches to open/reseal containers, gaskets, and backups.
Contaminated Water Filtration Systems
- Household, mobile and personal sizes.
Water Preservers
- Used to keep water drinkable for long periods of time.
Coffee and Other Drinking Options
- Flavored water additives or mixes that add vitamins/nutrients (not just sugar)
- The tastiest freeze-dried coffee, powdered dairy/non-dairy creamer(s) and other shelf-stable flavored coffee additives.

SHELF STABLE FOOD:
Beyond Beans and Rice
Storing foodstuffs for a crisis involves more than the food itself.
Eating emergency food shouldn’t feel like a punishment.
Storing healthy, good-tasting food can boost morale and ease stress during a crisis—especially with children.
These goals can be achieved even on a tight budget.
Keeping out pests or even hungry pets is critical.
Stay Ready Prepping will provide numerous choices for shelf-stable food options.
Food Types
Dried/powdered, freeze dried, canned, gluten-free, organic, vegetarian, and vegan choices.
Food Storage Containers
Pest-resistant and/or lockable food storage containers in sizes and shapes that fit your space and block access from children or pets.

GRID DOWN COOKING:
Preparing Food Without a Working Stove
When preparing for a power outage, you must assume that your stovetop and oven will not work, even if your unit is gas operated. If gas is flowing, older stovetops will generally work, and modern gas stovetops may work if the burners can be manually lit.
However, a severe or long-lasting power outage may stop gas from flowing into your home.
There are several outdoor cooking methods to heat water and cook food, but there are other convenient options which can allow you to cook indoors with safety precautions.
We can help you decide which emergency cooking method is best for your situation.
Alternative Fuel Stoves
- Butane, propane, sterno, camp stoves and more.
Portable Electric Stoves
- Plug-in burners, slow cookers and low-power steamers (require emergency electric power)

BACKUP REFRIGERATION
Low Power or No Power Alternatives
Running a standard household refrigerator/freezer during a blackout requires a large amount of limited emergency power.
Some deep freezers use far less power and can keep food frozen for 48 hours with no power.
Smaller portable 12-volt refrigerator/freezers consume much less energy and are more energy efficient using the correct battery connection. Some models have internal batteries and can be directly powered by solar panels.
Using Standard Coolers
Below or near freezing temperatures, perishable food can be placed inside a lockable or animal-resistant standard cooler and secured outside. In the summertime, this requires ice, which may or may not be available.
We can help you choose from a large selection of the below options for emergency refrigeration:
- Indoor/outdoor temperature resistant deep freezers.
- 12v powered refrigerators or freezers.
- 12v powered refrigerator/freezers combos.
- Animal-resistant and/or lockable standard coolers.
- Appropriate power sources to minimize power consumption.

POWER OUT? POWER BACK UP
Emergency power is necessary to charge and operate the following:
- Electronic devices- phones, laptops, tablets.
- Refrigerators and freezers- for perishable food and
- Security/communication equipment- wi-fi routers, wireless (or wired) cameras, alarm systems, etc.
- Medical equipment- Breathing/sleep machines, powered wheelchairs/lifts/scooters, oxygen or home dialysis equipment.
- Cooling, cooking, and lighting gear.
Solar Power Generators and Fossil Fuel Generators
There are important pluses and minuses of using solar generators or fossil fuel generators for back-up power. If your budget/storage space allows it, having both options is optimal.
Stay Ready Prepping will accommodate each customer’s unique power needs and space requirements when advising which back-up power solution(s) work best.
- Solar power generators/fossil fuel generators- various types, sizes and power capacities.
- Portable solar panels for solar generators- different wattages, sizes, types and accessory cables.
- Extension cords and power splitters for both generator types.
- Small personal sized solar powered/USB-C rechargeable power banks

BLACKOUT KITS:
Blackout Kits
In a blackout, rechargeable/battery powered light sources are for more than just seeing at night.
Lights are for Safety. Cooking. Fixing. Cleaning. Bathroom Trips. Reading. And more.
A mix of different back-up lighting options will make any -pop-up- household task easier and safer to complete at night—or in any dimly lit room during the daytime.
According to your needs, Stay Ready Prepping will create a custom “Blackout Kit” list with a mixture of suggested LED light sources.

WINTERTIME EMERGENCY HEATING
Hoarding Your Heat
Far too often, people suffer or tragically pass away due to bitterly cold temperatures inside their home after utilities are disabled or shut-off some time prior.
Surviving, or being relatively comfortable during a winter heat outage can depend on the following 4 things:
- Atleast one alternative heating source (two are better).
- Layers of appropriate cold weather clothes.
- Household insulation/warming/sleeping equipment.
AND
- Practice using everything above at the same time.
Stay Ready Prepping will recommend customized options and accessories for all the above equipment and more depending on individual needs.

SUMMERTIME COOLING
Central Air Defense
Living without air conditioning during a summertime power outage is incredibly uncomfortable and can be life-threatening—especially for infants and seniors.
Running a window or portable a/c unit during a blackout will consume significant amounts of emergency power, especially older window units.
Depending on the amount of emergency power you have stored or can generate with a fossil fuel or solar generator, it may be a better choice to use emergency power for another need—like refrigeration.
No matter how much emergency power you have available, Stay Ready Prepping will maximize the use of that power by recommending energy-efficient cooling equipment.
- Battery Powered/Rechargeable Fans- hands-freeneck fans, hand-held fans, desk fans, hanging fans, 12volt clip-on fans.
- Window or Portable A/C Units –Newer technology on select units has decreased their energy drain.
- Battery/Solar Powered Portable A/C Units- Some solar generator manufacturers have introduced dual A/C and heating units that operate with their batteries, solar power, electric power from generators or a combination of methods.

HEALTH, SAFETY AND SANITATION
Toilet Matters
Avoid Predictable Dangers
The risk and frequency of household fires or carbon monoxide poisoning increases during harsh winter weather and power outages--having up to date fire extinguishers and CO2 detectors can prevent such hazards.
Don’t Rely on 911
In case 911 response is delayed for any reason, owning a medical kit and a stash of common over the counter medicine is an important investment.
The Toilet Threat
If sewage lines are backed up or water service is disrupted, toilet use may cause a smelly health hazard without the right precautions.
Depending on the issue, toilet use might become impossible.
Stay Ready will keep you ready by providing options for health, safety and sanitary items that fit your needs.
- Different Types of Fire Extinguishers
- Portable Toilets and Smell-Busting Accessories
